Haunted Halloween Spooktacular - A Demon’s Witch by Tena Stetler

Fear of Halloween?

Do you have a fear of Halloween?  Then you suffer from Samhainopobia. I don't fit in that category! Do you?

My point is that Halloween isn’t just for kids, anymore. Today Halloween is attracting adults in a masquerade type atmosphere, much like Mardi Gras. Their costumed antics mock, challenge and tease the mysterious, possible malevolent forces of the night. The otherworld becomes our world on this night of enchanted possibilities and transcendence. Are we reaffirming death as a part of life in an exhilarating celebration of magic for an evening? Or like me, just enjoying the air of celebration on a night the veil between the living and dead is purported to be the thinnest. Every year with the help of my hubby, I decorate our house to the hilt on the first day of October and revel in Halloween décor the entire month.

Did you know Jack-O-Lanterns originated in Ireland? People placed lit candles inside hollowed out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) holiday.

Boy, did we do a role reversal on that aspect of Halloween. Instead of chasing the spirits away, we tend to invite them in.

Well, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to don my vampire costume, custom fitted fangs and pull up a stool in the shadows of my front door, candy bowl on a stand beside me. I sneakily turn on the fog machine and out of the mist greet the little trick or treaters or scare the bejeebers out of the older ones with bats hanging over head and screeching on my command.

Won’t you join me? Happy Halloween!

Looking for a fun Halloween Read? A Witch's Journey is chocked full of meddling ghosts, shapeshifters, sexy witch, a ruggedly-handsome Navy SEAL. An exciting story of redemption, wildlife rescue and Halloween festivals. What more could you ask for?

“Do you like rum cake?” he asked to keep himself from having to reevaluate all the reasons again. He admitted Wilhelmina Hawthorne’s dessert was more alcohol than flour, but anything to keep Grace from leaving him to go check her text messages in case the damn wish somehow made it through…not that he believed in the folklore in the first place.
“Sure, but I’m not very good with liquor.” She tucked a piece of dark hair behind her ear.
He chuckled, imagining her getting wild and disrobing on top of his antique coffee table.
“So, what happens with you and alcohol?”
She smiled. “I don’t take off my clothes, if that what you’re asking.”
“Damn.”
She laughed but lifted a dainty finger as if to give him a warning. “I fall asleep, so I can have some cake, but keep in mind there’s a very good chance my face will fall flat into the plate after my third bite.”
“I’ll take that chance.”
“It’s your call.” She shrugged. He left her to retrieve Wilhelmina’s prized rum cake, deciding to
bring the entire Bundt-shaped dessert with two forks resting on each side. When he entered the room, he found Grace sitting in quiet contemplation, her attention focused on the dormant redbrick fireplace. Since he’d installed the gas furnace several years before, he’d not
had any desire to light the fireplace up again, even when his dates hinted several times of how romantic it would be to cuddle before a crackling fire.
“Are you cold?” he asked.
She peered up, startled. “No, I’m fine.” She tried to stifle a shiver, and he sat the plate down and ambled away to retrieve some logs from his deck. Despite not using the fireplace, he understood the importance of keeping it ready for emergencies. It took several minutes, but he managed to build a popping fire, the sweet aroma of sizzling sap filling the space with a comforting fragrance. She moved to sit beside him, bringing the blanket his mother made with her.
“This feels wonderful.” Grace closed her eyes and let the flickering light kiss her cheeks.
“Yes.” He sat captivated by her entranced features, realizing how he’d reminisced about kissing her, every glorious inch of her. “Are you ready for some football…and cake?” He projected his voice above the tone of his own thoughts. Her lids flew open, and he wondered where she’d been these last few moments, and with whom. The thought unsettled him.
“Are you ready to carry me up a flight of stairs?”
He cocked his head and narrowed his eyes. “Only if you’re fully naked.”
“How did I know you were going to say that?” She sighed and maneuvered around so the cake sat between them on the short coffee table. As he flipped the game on and muted the volume, she lifted a small bite to her lips when he reached out to stop her.
She gave him a quizzical look. “What’s the matter?”
“How about we make this interesting?”
She drew back, and he knew she didn’t trust his motives. “How…interesting?”

Virtual Tour - Steele and Stone Daring Hearts, #1 by Kay Phoenix

Steele and Stone
Daring Hearts, #1
by Kay Phoenix
Date of Publication:  November 2nd 2016
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Genre:  Contemporary Romance

From The Book Junkie Reads . . . Steele and Stone (Daring Hearts, #1) . . .
Michael meets wide eyed, country-fied, outdoors loving, artist type, Elle. There was a catch to it. He was there to get her land for his company. But he got much more than the land. He got that bone deep feeling that he never thought would come his way. The two had a lot to shift through to find that peace of self they were both looking for. In order to enjoy the peace of togetherness they had found within each other.

I found things a little quick paced. I would have loved to seen this one expanded and give more room to grown more or further. If you are looking for a quick read that will give you some depth and emotional pull. Then pick up a copy of Steel and Stone.

BLURB
Elle Thompson was raised in Denver. She paints. She hikes. She knows how to avoid cougar attacks.

The only cougars Michael Williams usually worries about are the ones that wear leopard print leggings on 5th Avenue.

But, when his acquisition firm sets its sights on Elle's family business, his tidy life goes awry. As things unravel, so do all his preconceived notions of love and what makes a perfect partner.

Michael Williams was a soft city boy, and she was willing to bet he not only indulged in regular manicures but perhaps even enjoyed the occasional facial. She wondered whether he had rolled up his sleeves for fear of getting his expensive, white, designer dress shirt dirty with barbecue sauce. He probably wore designer underwear as well.
Boxers or briefs? Her gaze traveled south. Briefs, probably. Expensive white designer briefs. Tighty whities.
He was definitely not her type.
She smirked as her gaze traveled back up to his eyes. They were staring back into hers.
Caught red-handed! Her smirk faded and her cheeks reddened. She grabbed at a strand of hair to twirl in her fingers and pretended to be interested in a framed painting of a pig in an apron that was hung behind his left shoulder.
Something primal lurked below the surface of his gaze, and it drew her back in. It was as if she stared into the eyes of a caged animal set to pounce. Not one that had been born in a zoo, but one that had been captured in the wild and placed in captivity. Perhaps he hadn’t always been a city boy?

MY INTERVIEW WITH KAY PHOENIX
How would you describe you style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
I write emotion driven stories.  My plots usually involve the characters learning some very important life lessons regarding love and how to live the best life possible.  Basically, all my characters already had these great traits inside them; they just needed a kick in the pants to “wake up”.  I also write paranormal, and this is a theme that runs through those characters as well.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?
As far as a routine, I like to have a cup of coffee next to me and a dog at my feet.  I also like it to be very quiet.  I do my best writing late at night.

Do you take your character prep to heart? Do you nurture the growth of each character all the way through to the page? Do you people watch to help with development? Or do you build upon your character during story creation?
A story with flat characters is boring.  My characters are somewhat based on real people, or real events that I’ve either experienced or read about.  I’m a firm believer in a strong character arc, and I like to see characters finish the story as a stronger, happier person than they were at the beginning.  Yes, sometimes even my antagonists.

Have you found yourself bonding with any particular character? If so which one(s)?
In this particular book, Steele and Stone, I have bonded with Elle, not surprisingly.  I think most authors bond with their main characters, especially when they are taking them on a journey of self discovery.  There’s no way to put your characters through hell without learning something about your own, authentic self as you write it.

Do you have a character that you have been working on that you can't wait to put to paper?
YES!  I have a character named Johnathan who is a werewolf in another series I’ve been working on.  His father was a Nazi in Germany and was a pretty horrible, abusive person.  His father becomes a werewolf and in a fit of spite, makes his son a werewolf as well.  So, what does Johnathan do with this newfound, somewhat “super human” animal telepathy that comes with his “curse”?  Well, he moves to Africa to become one of the best, most sought after photo safari guides ever.  How better to see the animals, than with a guide that seems to be able to communicate with them and make them almost pose for your camera?
Johnathan is a kind soul, and he uses his “curse” for good.  However, he will have to face his father, eventually, and the hordes of others like him.

Have you ever felt that there was something inside of you that you couldn't control? If so what? If no what spurs you to reach for the inexperienced?
As a typical Virgo to the core, it really bugs me when something is awry.  So, if I’m feeling out of control, you can bet I’m already aware of it and trying to figure out what to do.

A passion of mine, that makes me very excited, is sharing art with people.  I love bringing someone to a museum, musical, or art show who claims that they aren’t “into” art, and then being able to convince them why they need art in their lives, figuratively. The moment I see the shift in their perception is something that brings me great happiness. I guess you could say I have the heart of an entertainer, because I like bringing happiness and pleasure into people lives and helping them transform their own.  I hope that makes sense.

Virtual Tour - Dragon Knight's Ring (Order of the Dragon Knight's, #5) by Mary Morgan

Dragon Knight’s Ring
Order of the Dragon Knights, #5
by Mary Morgan
Date of Publication: August 12th 2016
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Cover Artist: Debbie Taylor
Genre: Paranormal Time-Travel Romance

From The Book Junkie Reads . . . Dragon Knight’s Ring (Order of the Dragon Knights, #5) . . .
Through the ages of time, love can make a way to be found again and again. But with the time that passes there will always be pain, sorrow, joy, passion, danger. Something broke the bounds to keep them apart. Having them come together again will not be welcomed.

This was my first read of Mary Morgan and I was enchanted with the world of knights, dragons, myths, magic, time-travel, love of soulmates, a druid or two, a few faes here or there, and of course a bad guy. I got a very splendidly detailed time-travel romance that would entice the soul to make that ultimate sacrifice to find that one true love that was meant to be.

Even on the second encounter there was power in that meeting. The explosion within the soul was not one to be denied the truth. There were a whole host of characters to become vested in. The reality of the world they were apart of and protecting was riveting. Scotland has been one of my top romance triggers of all time. Add to that the highlands makes it that much more for me. Then Mary Morgan boost it all with time-travel, knights, druids, and more. The second chance at that one love that was everything and anything to your world.

Be prepared for an emotional ride that will allow for you to cry, laugh, be sad, happy, confused, elated, and passion filled. I will get a chance to explore more of Mary Morgan’s works, beginning with more of the Order of the Dragon Knight series.
**This ARC was provided via Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.**

Order of the Dragon Knights series:
Dragon Knight’s Sword – Order of the Dragon Knights, #1
Dragon Knight’s Medallion – Order of the Dragon Knights, #2

Dragon Knight’s Ring – Order of the Dragon Knights, #5

Shocked by her words, Adam shoved the spoon into his mouth. Savoring the flavors of the meat, he handed the spoon back to her. Licking his lips, he arched a brow at her. “Needs more salt and meat.” Drinking the last of his beer, he set the bottle down.
“The first time I saw ye was in the hills near Urquhart. I was attempting to calm said beast.” He pointed to Ciar. “He was fierce in the beginning. Yet, ye ambled over to him, singing. Ye have always had a way with the animals. Your voice soothes them.”
“And that’s how we met, right? Ye did share this, but was there more?” She handed him another spoonful of the meat mixture.
“Aye. Ye followed me down to the loch, and we talked for many hours. It was the start of our kinship.”
Meggie rested her chin on her knees. “For how long, Adam?”
“Several summers.” He watched her closely, trying to gage her thoughts.
“Hmm…we were in a relationship.”
Baffled by her word, he shrugged. “I dinnae ken your meaning.”
“Were we a couple? Was I your girlfriend? Sweetheart?”
Adam took his thumb and captured a lone bit of food near her lip. Popping the tasty piece into his mouth, he heard her indrawn breath. “Ye were mine, Meggie. Stubborn, defiant, strong, and ye embraced each day with love for all.”
“What happened?” she asked.
“Ye left.” Standing, Adam moved away. Never a patient man, he wanted to blurt out everything, shake her into remembering. Frustration slithered inside of him. Walking over to an old oak, he braced his hands against its rough bark. He heard her approach, but kept his back to her.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, and then surprised Adam by placing her arms around him.
Her touch seared straight to his soul, fracturing a place within his heart that had been sealed since her death. He broke free from her embrace and turned around. Grasping her face with his hands, his eyes roamed over her features. Seeing her lips part, he could no longer control the man that longed to taste what had been stolen from him. His entire being seemed to be filled with waiting, and he grew weary of the fight.

Lowering his head, his tongue traced the soft fullness of her lips. Then he brushed a feather light kiss on her mouth. It was divine bliss when their lips touched. “Do ye want me to stop?” he asked, breathing the words against her cheek.
“Nae.”
Reclaiming her mouth, Adam crushed her to him. This time, he devoured her soft lips and drank in their sweetness, slipping his tongue inside her mouth. Her moan slid deep within him, and he trembled.

INTERVIEW WITH MARY MORGAN
How would you describe you style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
My stories are a mix of Historical, Time-travel, and Paranormal. If you like sexy (cursed) Highlanders, Druids(good and evil), meddlesome Fae Warriors, the Scottish Highlands, and heroines who can stand strong next to Medieval men, then I hope you’ll fall in love with my stories.

What mindset or routine do you feel the need to set when preparing to write (in general whether you are working on a project or just free writing)?
I shut out the outside world by silencing phones and email. I open my leather journal with all my research/notes and review the previous day’s work on the laptop. When I’m ready, I turn on my music. Once the song begins, I’m lost within the story. It’s a basic routine/ritual I follow every day.

Do you take your character prep to heart? Do you nurture the growth of each character all the way through to the page? Do you people watch to help with development? Or do you build upon your character during story creation?
Absolutely! Character preparation is extremely important to me. I write down as much as possible in the beginning stages—from physical features to personality traits. Names are important, too. Once I start writing, I let the characters take over. They’ve led me down some interesting paths. Surprisingly, I’ve never “people watched” to help build with their development. I have too many within my mind to watch. J

Have you found yourself bonding with any particular character? If so which one(s)?
They are all dear to me, and I have no favorites. However, the one that I did relate most to was Angus MacKay, the oldest brother from Dragon Knight’s Shield. I was the oldest in my family, so I understood his pain and guilt at letting his siblings down. He had a duty to lead the way. I’ve often felt the same.

Do you have a character that you have been working on that you can't wait to put to paper?
Oh my gosh! I’m finally writing his story now! Conn MacRoich is a Fenian (Fae) Warrior. He stepped into the pages of my first book, Dragon Knight’s Sword, and I have waited years to write his story. I’m delighted to say that his will be the first in a spin-off series called, Legend of the Fenian Warriors. The first book is, “Quest of a Warrior.”

Have you ever felt that there was something inside of you that you couldn't control? If so what? If no what spurs you to reach for the unexperienced?
Definitely! The fantasy realms within my mind. I’m a constant daydreamer, and there’s always been a story lurking within me. Trust me, I did try when I was younger to control my mind from drifting, but I was miserable. The stories felt trapped. I was most likely a bard in my previous life. J

Thanks so much for hosting me today!
Mary Morgan
Thank you, Mary Morgan
I have had the pleasure of reading the Dragon Knight’s Ring and I must say that I have been enchanted and want more. I have to get the previous books of this series. I experienced a rich depth of emotional range. I was pulled in and did not want to leave. The strong bond of friends and family was a vital key to it all.  I to look forward to your new spin off series. I expect to get in on the ground level with this upcoming release in the Legend of the Fenian Warriors.

Thanks again,
