One night changes everything.

From The Book Junkie Reads . . . The Auction (Down and Dirty) . . .
Where did you go wrong when your best friend is a drag queen and want you to go up on the auction block. Everywhere if you are Stark, a recluse that finds it hard to say no to a friend. But this time it may have been well worth the acquiescence.

It’s Christmas Eve and Scotty can get through a night at the club and the auction for charity. She had no plans to bid just watch. Except when she get back to her friend, after a break, she finds that she has a date with a mysterious dominant.

This was one Christmas Eve to put in the books. Scotty and Stark will make it memorable. I got to say the pages were on fire.

BLURB
Stark is too old to be selling himself, or his services. He’s too set in his ways, too piled in grief, and well...it’s been too long. But when your best friend is a big demanding drag queen, and hosting the event, it’s impossible to say no. It's one night, he convinces himself, and then he can get back to his reclusive life.

Scotty can handle the club for one night. It’s Christmas Eve after all, and the auction is for charity. If she saw her ex she could deal with it, she hoped and it wasn’t like she had to bid on anyone. But when she comes back from the bar she finds her best friend had other plans, and now she has a date with a mysterious dominant.

“We are going to be late, and I won’t get a good one.” Cheri linked her arm through Scotty’s, forcing her to pick up her pace.
“I was ready at nine. You just had to try on four pairs of my shoes,” Scotty replied.
“You have better taste in shoes than anyone else on the planet.”
“Because it used to be the only thing I wore.” Scotty gave her a look, ignoring the pain in her heels. Shoes were pain. A pain she used to like. Now it was a stark reminder. But everything was a reminder.
“Well, now you’re a big shot lawyer, and clothes are required.”
“But I like kicking ass, so it’s an equal trade-off.”
Cheri rolled her eyes and turned into the alley. This was a frequent trek for them while Scotty had been in law school, not so much in the last few years.
“Are you going to be okay if we see her?” Cheri asked.
Scotty didn’t meet her eyes. “I’ll be fine.”
A sinewy naked man greeted them at the door and collected their coats. They were long past showing their keys, getting a rundown of the rules, or being briefed on the night’s events. Cheri was still a regular, even if Scotty wasn’t. They were handed a menu of sorts. A heavy black card with a bold silver typeface, it was more like something seen at high dollar weddings, not a BDSM club.
“Good, because I know she’s on the menu for tonight.”
Scotty wrinkled her nose. She didn’t want to hear about it. She was blocked from Scotty’s mind, mostly. There was still the errant dream, but those could be written off to nothing more than job stress. She just hoped they wouldn’t last forever.
“I don’t care. The moratorium stands.”
Cheri held up her hands. “I thought you’d want to be briefed.”
Scotty took a deep breath and wrote it off. Cheri usually meant well, even if she did love gossip. Cheri probably knew more about Tanya’s sex life than Scotty ever had, and she was more than okay with it.
“Not necessary. It’s been years.” More than that since she’d stepped foot in here. It felt the same and yet different as they trudged up the well-worn metal stairs. Relationships don’t just end. They sink long before, she’d learned, and once trained to see the signs, it was easy to see when they started taking on water. It had been at least six months before the relationship ended that they’d stopped coming to the club. Or rather, Scotty’d stopped coming.
“If you say so.” Cheri took a left before the long hall of private rooms, taking them to the main play space and right up to the bar. “Two gin and tonics.” She looked at Scotty, who nodded. “Let’s grab seats in the back and peruse our options.”
“I’m only here for moral support.” And because Cheri had dragged her out, but Scotty wasn’t going to say as much. She took her drink from the bartender. It was one of the few nights of the year the bar was completely open, as there wasn’t going to be any play.
“And because you had nothing better to do on Christmas Eve?”
“Rub it in.” Scotty took a seat with her back to the wall. At least Tanya wouldn’t be able to sneak up on her that way. Who was Scotty kidding, she was backstage. She shouldn’t be this on edge. Tanya wouldn’t be down here.
Cheri set down her menu and brushed her fingers over the elegant silver inlay. “They went all out this year.”
It was true, the place was decorated to the nines. Mistletoe, garlands, and sprigs of pine garnished every surface. They even had a centerpiece on each table with two little candles. The lights were down low, and it gave the club a romantic air than it usually had with slapping flesh and normal spotlights usually allowed.
“Since people like us don’t have family to spend the holidays with, maybe they figured it would be nice.”
Cheri knit her brow, but she knew she was one of the lucky ones. She’d been raised in the city, and her parents were all welcoming when it came to her sexuality. They’d probably even be okay with the Domme stuff, if they didn’t already know. “Sure you don’t want to come to dinner tomorrow? My parents would love to see you.”
“As much as I love playing the role of your girlfriend.” Which she had for a few years, while they were both in undergrad. “I don’t want to keep intruding. They are going to start asking why you’re not popping the question.”
“We are much better as friends.” Cheri wiggled her brows, making Scotty laugh.
Cheri was the one who’d introduced her to the club, but things between them had only ever been casual play, and even that had ended when Tanya came around.
“We are. Now look here. There are five Dommes up for auction tonight. Five.” Cheri was practically bouncing in her seat.
“What?” Scotty made herself skim over her ex’s name, reading the bios of the other Dommes listed for auction. “No shit. It has been awhile since I’ve been around, hasn’t it? I didn’t think there were that many Dommes who played here.”
“Have I not been trying to get you to come play?”
“How do the Dominants look?” Scotty ran her finger along the other side, checking out the penises.
Cheri winkled her nose. “Are you serious?”
“You may be a confirmed lesbian, but you know I’m bi. I want to see what’s on offer.” In reality, nothing jumped out at her, but it was easier to look at the dick side of the menu so she didn’t have to see Tanya’s name. She could read the entire thing without getting sick to her stomach.
“I really thought you got that out of your system.” Cheri laughed. She loved to give Scotty a hard time, but Scotty never took it personally.
“So, who are you bidding on?”
“I don’t know.” She didn’t plan on bidding at all. The number she’d been given at the door was going to stay firmly on the table.
“Pick at least two.” Cheri flipped the menu back to the female side and pointed. “I’m not taking no for an answer. I want Tanya to see you putting yourself back out there. She’s fucked every sub who’s walked in the door since you.”
Scotty groaned and probably turned a little green.
“Don’t take it hard. You had to have assumed.”
Scotty looked at her drink.
“You thought she was pining after you like you have been her?”
She shrugged one shoulder. “She could realize any day what a mistake she made.”
Cheri put a hand on her arm. “She made a huge mistake, but her way of dealing with it is drowning in pussy, and you should take a note on that.”
Cheri didn’t mean it, but her words were like a knife to an old wound in Scotty’s chest. She was such a fucking idiot for still caring.
“Can we not?” The plea in her voice gave her away. It was too easy to slip back into that mindset. This was why she’d buried herself in her job. It was easier.
“Of course.” She could hear the frown in Cheri’s voice without looking at her.
“It’s going to start.” Scotty took a drink and sat back. “Tell me who you’re bidding on.” She moved her gaze to the submissive list on the female side of the card.
“I was thinking of bidding on Blue.” Cheri pointed to a name, and Scotty obliged her by reading the bio. They were similar to the weird things people put on dating sites. Along the lines of long walks on the beach, only more personalized. Blue’s started with her favorite breakfast cereal.
Scotty shook her head. “She’s right up your alley.”
“If not her, there are a couple after I’m willing to drop cash on. Now tell me your picks.”
Scotty sighed and flipped over to the male side again. She couldn’t even stomach looking at the names near Tanya. “How about Alexander?”
“He’s no Tarzan.” Cheri scoffed after reading his bio.
“Have you met him?”
Cheri gave her a look. It was her signature “he’s way overrated” look.
“That bad?”
“Yep.” She sighed and flipped over her own list. “I can’t believe I’m being forced to look at the beefcakes.”
“They can’t all be bad.” Scotty was secretly hoping they were all bad, then maybe she could get off without bidding.
“There are a few tolerable ones, and a couple I don’t know. I guess we’ll have to play it by ear.”
Her words were music to Scotty’s ear. “Sounds good.”
“Oh, no. No, no, no. Don’t you dare.”
“What?” Scotty was confused.
“This is for charity so you must spend some of your nest egg, and you have got to stop avoiding dating. Tanya is a jackass, but you love submitting. Don’t let her take that away from you.”
She nodded and was saved by the lights going dim.

This weekend, Polly and Lucan work the kinks into their relationship.

When Polly is caught in a compromising position with a toy and a hardcore video, she doesn't think her husband will ever go near her again. She feels twisted, nothing like the sweet wife he married. Little does she know, she's awakened a monster by prodding Lucan's sexual beast and making him sit up and take notice.

Finally.

What about Lucan's needs? He's been so busy at work that things have gotten out of his grip to the point he can't even remember his fantasies.

During a weekend of passion and turmoil, heat and pleasure, they vow to never drift apart again. Neither can imagine just how far they'll go to please the other, or how well matched their particular variety of kinks are.

Polly glanced at her watch as she stepped into the house. Good, she had plenty of time to indulge herself before Lucan came home. She shut the door and ignored a bill that lay on the mat.
All day she’d steamed through her to-do list, knocking each thing off with a tick of satisfaction. She’d even forgone lunch, choosing to eat her salad at her desk. Her colleagues had soon taken the hint, when she’d given one-word answers to their chatty questions, she just wasn’t in the mood.
Some solo fun was what she needed before Lucan walked through the door. He’d toss his keys into the ceramic bowl on the dresser in the hallway, hang his jacket in the cupboard and then plant a chaste kiss on her cheek. She’d bet money on him commenting on “thank goodness it’s the weekend,” then he’d put on his old Oasis t-shirt and worn jeans, and pop a beer.
She’d cook, they’d watch TV, then it would be their usual Friday night missionary sex beneath the duvet. The highlight of his week, he always told her afterwards as he pulled his boxers back on.
Trouble was, their sex routine had become so stale if it were bread it wouldn’t be any good for even the ducks. He tweaked her nipples, rubbed her clit for thirty seconds and then pushed in. After that it was a predictable four minutes until he came.
Polly never did.
She’d tried to push him onto his back so she could climb on top and get herself off, encouraged a little oral fun with a sexy whisper, even hinted that they take a trip to a sex shop for some toys. Her suggestions were met with a big strong body that had only one plan for their bedroom sequence and, much to her dismay, had fallen on deaf ears.
Maybe she hadn’t been firm or loud enough.
For as long as she could remember, frustration burned hotly through her veins. It was an itch she couldn’t scratch. A longed for possession she would never afford. And she had no idea what to do about it.
Until, that was, a few weeks ago.
She’d been scrawling through Facebook on her laptop when she’d seen a Gucci handbag on sale—the GIF flashing excitedly—and clicked the link. Only it wasn’t a handbag sale, not by a long shot. Before she knew it a porn site had filled her screen and the wails of a woman in the throes of climax echoed around the room. She’d been alone but still glanced about the kitchen, embarrassed at the wild cries of release.
As she’d watched, heat had traveled up Polly’s spine and her cheeks had flushed. She’d squirmed on the seat and curled her toes in her fluffy pink slippers. The woman on screen was getting a good seeing to, the black man she was with pounding into her hard and fast. The camera angles were rude and crude, up close and personal. A big dark cock disappeared over and over into her wet, pink pussy.
Polly had stared wide-eyed, knowing she should turn it off. The link could be full of bugs or viruses or whatever else infected computers. But she couldn’t, she was utterly mesmerised.
The woman’s breasts jiggled, the camera gave a shot of the man’s ass cheeks as he thrust with ever-increasing speed.
Polly clenched her internal muscles as another shout of “It’s here, oh yes, oh yes, fuck me, fuck me harder,” rattled from her laptop speakers.
The man groaned, deep and guttural, a sound that spoke to Polly. When had she last heard Lucan moan like that? He seemed to hold his pleasure in, a few panting breaths, a low rumble in his throat perhaps. Why couldn’t he let go? Allow his release to be unharnessed and escape wild and free. It wasn’t as if they had any children to worry about, their house was their own, they had all the privacy a married couple needed.
Quickly Polly dumped her work-bag on the counter. She reached into the fridge for a bottle of Chardonnay and poured herself a large glass. Then, with her laptop under her arm, she headed up the stairs.
The cat was on the bed. “Tilly, come on, out you go. I don’t want an audience,” she said as she tugged the covers.
Tilly voiced a quick complaint then sauntered from the room. She’d likely been asleep all day so Polly didn’t feel guilty. Her own needs were greater and they needed seeing to.
After taking a few more big sips of wine, she began to strip. When she was down to knickers and bra she flicked on the shower in the en suite. She had at least an hour and a half before Lucan came home. The traffic was always heavy on the ring road on a Friday with everyone escaping London for the weekend. Perhaps he’d be even later than she expected. But she couldn’t count on that, she had to presume he’d be in at the earliest time possible.
She pulled the curtains closed, even though it was still daylight, then shucked her underwear.
Humming a happy tune, she twisted her hair on the top of her head and stepped into the stream of warm water. She filled her palms with coconut scented shower gel and rubbed it over her breasts. Her nipples spiked and she held her face to the water, letting it tap on her eyelids and run over her lips. Her breasts were heavy and had always been very sensitive, especially on the outer curves. She adored having the skin there lightly brushed, stroked, caressed, because it sent a tingle to her clit. Shame Lucan only thought it was her nipples that needed stimulating.
Had he always been that way?

London psychiatrist Wesley Atherton is a man of science. He doesn't believe in love at first sight, but he’s inexplicably drawn to a green-eyed American beauty he bumps into on the Tube. Just his luck that Katherine, a fashion design intern, has an engagement ring on her finger.

Surviving a deadly train wreck is the first sign his intuition is spot on. The second: a psychic who warns them the Reaper doesn't like to be cheated out of its quarry. I felt myself flying backward. It happened in the blink of an eye. One second I was on top of the world, the next plunged into darkness, surrounded by the sounds of metal scraping against metal, shattering glass and terrified screams—one of them my own.
The railway car I was on had jumped the tracks. It was skidding sideways, momentum causing it to careen out of control. In the dim tunnel light I caught a glimpse of the rapidly approaching wall. The car crashing into it sounded like an explosion.
Then, just as suddenly as it had started, it ended. For a moment it seemed the earth stood still. Silent. I was wedged on the floor between two seats, my left arm and shoulder throbbing in pain. Using only my right arm, I reached for the seat in front of me and pulled myself up to a standing position. Without a moment’s hesitation, I reached into my pocket for my lighter and struck a flame.
The air was thick with dust and debris that stung my eyes and filled my nose. I waved my hand in front of my face in an attempt to clear it. Squinting into the darkness, I called out for the woman who’d been in my arms just seconds earlier.
“Katherine?”
I spied her lying on the floor; she appeared unconscious. On impact she’d been thrown clear across the aisle. “Katherine!”
She didn’t respond. I fell to my knees alongside her. Reaching out with a shaky hand, I offered up a silent prayer before checking for a pulse. Thankfully, she still had one and it was strong, steady.
I guided the light over Katherine’s body, assessing her injuries. The butane burned and as seconds ticked away, the outer casing of the silver lighter became increasingly hot. Just as I noticed a tiny rivulet of blood seeping from her left ear, I dropped it.
“Bugger!”
The blood concerned me. The fact that she was unconscious concerned me even more. I pushed down the rising feeling of panic, then methodically began to search the area in front of me for the lighter. Within a few seconds I’d found it and was able to illuminate her face.
“Katherine, love, open your eyes.”
Still no response.
“Henry? Where are you?”
It was the elderly woman Katherine and I had been sitting across from just minutes ago. It had been after midnight when we’d pulled out of the Mornington Crescent Tube station. There were only five of us in the car, Katherine and me, the elderly woman and her husband and a young man.
I stood and held the light out behind me, in the direction where the young man had been. I heard a cough and seconds later he emerged, stumbling down the aisle through the rubble and awkwardly stepping over a section of twisted metal frame.
“Is she okay?”
I remembered seeing the young man nursing a bottle in a paper bag as he boarded. He was obviously pissed, unsteady on his feet.
“I’m trying to find out. I need your help. Are you hurt?”
“No, I don’t think so.”
“I’m Wes. What’s your name?”
“Mark.”
“Mark, I need you to help me. I’ve been injured.” I was suddenly acutely aware of the pain in my left shoulder. “I need for you to do as I say. Do you have a set of keys?”
“Yeah.”
I handed him the lighter, then leaned over and opened one of Katherine’s eyelids. “I’m a doctor,” I explained. “Move the light up here, in front of her eyes.”
With some relief I saw that Katherine’s pupils were dilated, and although they were non-focal, they were still reactive to light.
I ran my hand over her hair. “Stay with me now. We’ll get you out of here,” I assured her before turning back to Mark.
“Remove her shoes. We need to check her motor response. That’s it. Now, firmly run the key up the length of her foot.”
For a second I held my breath.
“Like this?”
Katherine’s foot retracted.
“Thank God!” I whispered. She’d clearly felt it.
“So she’s okay?”
“Not by a long shot. But it could be worse. Much worse.”
“What’s wrong with her?”
“Head injury. She’s had a bleed, I think. We’ve got to get her to a hospital.”
“Somebody help me. Henry?” It was the elderly woman again and she sounded short of breath.
I leaned down, placed a gentle kiss on Katherine’s forehead, then whispered, “Wait for me, love. I’ll be right back.”
My coat was crumpled under one of the nearby orange seats and I reached for it.
“Help me get this over her.”
“What’s wrong with your arm?”
“It’s nothing.” I climbed to my feet.
“Do you have a signal?” I asked, pulling my own mobile out of my pocket.
“No. You?”
“No. Let’s check on the others.”
Mark went first, holding the lighter out in front to show the way. First we reached Henry. He’d also been thrown across the carriage on impact, only his head had struck the window and shattered the glass. The scene was gruesome. The lighter went out, once again plunging us into darkness. I was almost grateful.
“Sorry,” Mark apologized. He relit the flame, now holding the outside of the lighter with a bandanna he’d retrieved from his pocket. “The casing’s hot.”
Mark turned his head away from the dormant body. I couldn’t blame him. The man’s face was covered with blood; his neck had been partially severed by a section of glass. He was gone.
“Is he dead?”
“Dead?” The woman began to franticly call out for her husband. “Henry? Henry!”
I quickly crossed the aisle and crouched down next to her. “What’s your name, love?”
“Margaret.” She was struggling for breath. “Where’s Henry?”
“Margaret, I’m a doctor. I’m going to try to help you. Are you hurt?”
“My arm. And my chest. It feels like something might have fallen on top of me. Where’s Henry?” Her breaths were becoming more labored. “Henry!”
There was nothing on top of her chest. I checked her pulse. “I want you to calm down for me now. You’re heart’s beating like a humming bird. Do you have a heart condition? Do you take any medicines?”
“He’s dead, isn’t he?” Margaret looked me right in the eye. “Tell me!”
Before I could respond, the old woman gasped in pain and clutched her chest.
“What’s going on?” Mark sounded panicked. “Is she dead, too?”
Things were going downhill fast. If we didn’t act quickly, we were going to lose her. I bent over and placed my face next to Margaret’s.
“She’s not breathing and I’ve lost her pulse.”
“Fuck!”
“Could be just a heart attack, but she was struggling for breath earlier. Could be an injury to the chest wall, or a collapsed lung, maybe an embolism. I’m a psychiatrist, for Christ’s sake. It’s been years since I’ve done this sort of thing and my left arm is useless! You’re gonna have to help.”
“Help do what?”
“Save her. Come over and sit by me. Give me your hand. I’ll guide the chest compressions.”
Mark dropped the lighter on the floor. “Damn it!”
“Leave it! Look, we don’t have a lot of bloody time here. We need to open her airway. I want you to place your hand under her neck to tilt her head back and then pinch her nose, move her chin forward, and give her two breaths. Got it?”
There were a few scattered lights lining the left wall of the tunnel. My eyes had begun to adjust to the darkness and I could now see the outline of the woman.
“What if I do it wrong?”
“Do it!”
He did, then I leaned over the woman again to assess her breathing. Nothing. I reached for Mark’s hand and placed it beneath mine on her chest.
“We’re going to do chest compressions. Not too much force. Fifteen times. Ready? One, two, three, four,” I counted. There was an audible crack. I felt Mark begin to pull back.
“I can’t do this.” He sounded as if he were about to cry.
“It’s just a rib. Not so much force. Keep going all the way to fifteen. That’s it. Now, breathe twice!”
We continued the cycle six times with no response.
“It’s not working!”
He was right. For the first time in ages I felt incompetent. I’d been of no more use to Margaret than the pissed boy had been. I reached up and wiped the sweat from my brow.
“No, it’s not working,” I admitted, realizing that I had to accept defeat and move on. Katherine was still alive and she needed me, was depending on me.
“Now what?”
“Now we check on my girl. We’ve got to get her out of here.”
I stood and made my way back to Katherine, Mark following closely behind.
“Maybe we should wait? Don’t the Tube rails have electrical current flowing through them?”
“We’ll be careful. I made a promise to the lady. I intend to keep it.”
“Take a chance, Katherine. You know I’m right. You know it. You can feel it, can’t you? You won’t regret it, not for one bloody second,” I’d promised her, leaning down to steal one more kiss, enticing her into wanting, into forgetting, into surrendering.

Author Info
Samantha Sommersby left what she used to call her “real life” day job in 2007 to pursue writing full-time. Sam’s background in the psychiatric field is apparent in her work and allows her to bring a unique perspective to her characters and stories. She currently lives in southern California with her husband, son, and cocker spaniel, Buck.

Her husband is a social worker who works with abused children. He’s an avid sailor who loves to surf, and you’ll find bits of him in every hero that Sam has ever written. Her son is wonderfully sensitive, with a sarcastic sense of humor. He plays the piano, composes his own music, is a competitive fencer, and worships video games. On the rare occasion when Sam manages to set aside some play time for herself, you’ll most likely find her reading a book, at the movies, or out wine tasting.

Although she’s written a variety of genres, Sam happily spends most work days immersed in the world of the Forbidden, a world where vampires, werewolves, and demons are real, where magic is possible, and where love still conquers all.
